Not receiving any Instant Messages?
We can only repeat and stress: In order to receive IM you need to have popups enabled for our site. Some people have more than one popup blocker and that will prevent you from receiving instant messages (which pop up!).
If you are not receiving instant messages please make sure you have any popup blockers disabled during your session with GayRugby or allow the domain gayrugby.net to have messages pop up. We have NO advertising popups or other non-gayrugby popups, so don't worry.
Apart from commercial popup blockers please read on regarding WindowsXP Service Pack 2 which has an automatic popup blocker.
WindowsXP - Service Pack 2 Causing Problems
While Microsoft probably had the best intentions in bringing in an update to WindowsXP, the Service Pack Two caused a lot of headaches for many.
Two things that are of concern to us:
|
| |
1. INSTANT MESSAGING |
| |
|
Your instant messages are delivered via a popup window. By preventing the message to pop up you prevent youself from receiving the instant message a member may send you.
You should add our domain (gayrugby.net) to the allowed sites for popups. To do that in Internet Explorer do the following:
a. On the top Internet Explorer Menu, click on Tools
b. Choose Internet Options...
c. Click on the Privacy tab
d. On the bottom you will see Pop-up Blocer. Click on the button called "Settings"
e. Enter gayrugby.net in the field and click "Add" button
f. Click the Close and then the OK buttons to finalize the setting. |

2. PROBLEMS WITH CHAT |
| |
|
Our chat is based on Macromedia's Flash technology. The developer advised us that a member may not be able to log on to chat when running WindowsXP SP2 with the firewall turned on. To remedy that do the following to turn windows firewall off:
a. To disconnect the Windows Firewall, you need to click on the Start button on the task bar and choose Control Panel.
b. In the Control Panel window choose the Windows Firewall option at the bottom of the windows (you may have to scroll down.).
c. Choose the Off option and click on the OK button to finish disabling the Windows Firewall. |
| |
|
|
Please note that the above are short term solutions to enable instant messaging and chat. You need to evaluate yourself whether turning off the firewall is in your best interest as you may expose yourself to risk.
